Around 7.30 pm it gets dark in Merdari and at 10 pm most campers and tents are closed. It takes me no effort at all to get up around 6 and pack my things and have a leisurely breakfast. With 20c it is also nice and 'cool'.
Because I am so early I decide to make a small detour before driving to the interior of Montenegro. My route contains many points that I have noted from other overlanders and an abandoned submarine bunker from the Yugoslav era can be seen on this peninsula.
And what a cool place this is. It must have been mighty beautiful to see such a big black war machine lying here in the water. Fortunately, the tunnel is still there. Inside is even a ladder that leads to the bunker fort on top of the hill. But I'm not going to do that.
The last piece of (gravel) road to this place went down very steeply and gives me the itch for the way back up if I can make it. With a little run-up, it manages to come up drifting and well... 😅
After enjoying the impressions and the beautiful views, I set course for the interior.
And again there is a highlight waiting for me. The Kotor Serpentine. A mountain pass that is not nearly as well known as the Stelvio Pass in Italy, but even more beautiful and impressive in terms of view. And not nearly as busy. The image on the navigation alone is unique and lives up to its name.
I still try to film the curve sequence with the drone, but unfortunately it refuses to take off because there is an airport nearby (at least 30 km back). And the region behind this great pass, Lovcen National Park, is also a pleasure to drive through.
Time to go back to the coast because dark clouds are gathering. When I drive into Sutomore (the Zandvoort of Montenegro) I see ladies with a handwritten sign standing along the road and that arouses my interest. No, not what you think, they rent apartments. Given the approaching storm, I ask what it costs, and with the translation app we arrive at €30 for two nights. Deal. Rain is also predicted tomorrow, so I'm dry.

The P16 road along Skadarsko Jezero lake is also a beautiful route. Driven in 2018 myself!
Thanks for the tip Rick! I'm going to drive that route tomorrow, towards Albania.
