I find it difficult to determine which city will be my next destination because I have no idea how many kilometers I can cover in one day in India. There are places in India that I definitely want to see, but they are all several days away.
When I talk to the owner of a restaurant in the evening, the answer arises to the question where I am going. She tells me that she comes from a beautiful city 250 km from Amritsar and so I drive to Chandigarh the next day. There is little traffic on the two-lane roads and I take it easy, otherwise I will arrive at my destination much too early. The city is different from other cities, with a tidy uncluttered layout and less hectic traffic. The hotel has its own restaurant and for € 3.50 I enjoy 3 small but delicious courses.
There is little to see in the city, but there is a unique park with lots of handmade rocks, mosaics and artistic statues. And really, Park Güell in Barcelona (known for the Gaudi mosaics) pales in comparison. I've never seen so many broken bathrooms given a new purpose. So I get through the day easily. Strange that the park is not mentioned or promoted anywhere because it certainly deserves that. There is so much to see that I almost forget to visit the adjacent lake as well. Like many Indians, I enjoy the sun and the bustle. Now just arrange a tuk-tuk for the way back to the hotel.
