The journey

By ivo

It has been a while since I left on what would be my most beautiful trip ever and wrote my first experiences in the article below. This is the account of a trip that changed my life and can hopefully be an inspiration for you to go out into the wide world or dream away about it. If you want to read everything in the correct order, scroll to the end of the story and choose ‘… >’ for the next adventure. Enjoy reading!

After years of preparation, it will finally happen in August 2022! Then I leave, to travel around the world by motorcycle for a year. That would be enough time to drive all the way around, but let's start with half of it…

The route is far from fixed, but what it boils down to is that I want to travel from the Netherlands to Australia, over 45,000 km, through 34 countries. Unfortunately, Covid continues to throw a spanner in the works, so I'm also busy with an alternative route. I have always thought that such a journey is not for me, as much as I would like to, but a lot has happened in my life that has made me often need to adjust my view of the future and that I do not want to wait until I retire go to make my dreams come true.

Especially in recent years, everything in my life has been dominated by this journey. The preparations helped me get through a really difficult time and the more I was involved, the more realistic the plan became. My interest became more and more an obsession, with an enormous urge to make the impossible possible. The biggest barriers to taking a trip like this have always been things like family, work, relationships, and finances. But over time, this changed drastically or became achievable challenges.

The more it became clear to me that the trip was feasible, the more I started to tell people about my plans in my environment, the greater the pressure became to actually do it. And all the enthusiastic reactions make me even more fanatical. In short, I can't wait. Let's go!

Hi Ivo, I will follow you with great pleasure. But above all I give it to you. You have been through enough and this journey will help you to gain even more insight into yourself and to give the past a place as best as possible. And I admire your courage and that says something about you too.
Good luck with the further preparation and take care of yourself later, because your kids are proud of you and want to have fun with you for a long time to come. Kind regards, Roger
