We leave our pink bungalow to drive further to the north of Thailand. The first 60 of the more than 200 km go through Khao Yai National Park. The only road through the park is deserted. We pass several signs that warn of crossing elephants and given the large piles of poo on the road, that is not an empty warning.
But no matter how closely we look, unfortunately we don't get to see any elephants. A nice viewpoint on top of a mountain, but the sky is so white and foggy that unfortunately we cannot see far.
The roads after the park are rather straight and boring, so we are very much looking forward to the next address we have booked. According to the pictures on the internet there is a small but nice swimming pool. But unfortunately it is too good to be true: we are the only guests in the somewhat sheltered resort and the swimming pool has not been cleaned for a while because the water is a bit greenish. But perhaps the owners have seen the disappointment and the next morning there is actually a major cleaning of the swimming pool, so that Pim and Rik can swim a few laps.
For breakfast and dinner we jump on the motorbike towards the village and both times it results in an unexpectedly delicious and cheap meal. Each eatery has its own specialty, with sometimes even just 1 dish on the menu. Fortunately, all three of us like almost everything and we are not afraid to try something new. We like Grandmother's Thai cuisine!
