On the second day driving on the Great Ocean Road towards Melbourne we stop at the Erskine Falls. Very beautiful, but I am even more impressed by the rainforest around it than by the waterfall. The views during the ride, interspersed with beaches where you can surf on the high waves, remain spectacular.
Towards the end of the day we say goodbye to the children and their partners. They fly to other locations in Australia to continue their journey there. The rest will stay one more night in Melbourne and the next morning we will also split up. My sister, brother-in-law and her friend with partner are traveling through eastern Australia for another 2 weeks and I will be traveling alone for another 5 days.
I considered renting a motorbike, but I left Bangkok with only the bare essentials in my hand luggage. It is too difficult to also rent a complete motorcycle equipment for the changeable Australian weather. Hotels are very expensive here, by my standards, so I'd like a mini campervan. That is in fact a station wagon with a bed in the back. But it is now Easter holiday here and all campervans are sold out. Fortunately, I have my own air mattress and inner sleeping bag with me and for 15, - I score a duvet and pillow at the K-mart. A rental car with a large loading space is quickly found and so I drive away from Melbourne with my homemade camper.
