Continue together

My alarm goes off at 5.45 because in a few hours I will pick up my sons, Pim and Rik, from the airport in Bangkok. The 26 km taxi ride flies by in half an hour and soon I'm on the 'Arrival' floor waiting for my 2 familiar faces. It's been almost 7 months since we said goodbye, but the loss was great due to the many apps and FaceTimen. After the message that they are on their way to the exit, I look hopefully at the people who trickle in. A moment later we fly into each other's arms. How wonderful to be together again!

The way back to our hotel takes a lot longer because of the many traffic jams. After we have put the luggage in the hotel room and we have freshened up, we walk into town in search of breakfast. We are approached by a fixer to visit the so-called Floating Market and since the ride is super cheap, we accept the offer to take us to the relevant district.

Once there we first enjoy an extensive breakfast, after which we go out. We book a trip with the longboat that will take us past various temples and the floating market. Since all three of us have petrol in our veins, we enjoy the gigantic turbo engines on the boat and we challenge the captain to give it a lot of throttle.

It was not really the intention to make such an excursion immediately after arrival, but all three of us enjoy it immensely. The boat ride and the temples are beautiful, although the floating market is not what we thought. Occasionally boats come alongside to sell stuff, but it turns out to be more of a neighborhood with houses on stilts in and on the water. Also very nice, yes.

The fatigue of the short nights is starting to creep in, so we spend the afternoon at the pool and look for rental motorcycles on the internet. Then we eat together in a rooftop bar with a view over the city. Enjoy the delicious Thai food and local beer, but make your eyelids heavy. Go to bed early and sleep well.
