Northern route goes up in smoke

By ivo

Actually, I would write this text in the north of Thailand. Because I would like to go to Chiang Rai and the 2 weeks I still have in Thailand are ideal for that. But things are getting a little out of hand up north. After all, it is 'burning season'. The time of year when farmers set fire to their farmland to rid it of grasses, shrubs and weeds.

This season there is an extreme amount of smoke and as a bonus, lightning has caused a fire on a mountain near Pai. As a result, the sun is barely visible and the air quality is officially the worst in the world. Reason enough for me to change my plans and drive south to the coast.

After the necessary congestion and drops of sweat in busy Bangkok, another beautiful ride follows. As I get closer to my final destination, Hua Hin, I find myself driving on a road that looks familiar to me. While I think that I see a family restaurant where I had a delicious lunch with Pim and Rik and I immediately throw out the anchor. The owners still recognize me and ask where my sons are. Nice to see them again but also very coincidental because I'm driving a completely different route now. Except for this piece.

In Hua Hin I will last a few days: I have some online chores to do and my hotel is located in a quiet street with the beach and a swimming pool around the corner.
