Driving in Kuala Lumpur is a drama. All traffic is jammed from early in the morning until well into the night. Fortunately, motorcycles can pass most places, but it still takes me more than an hour to cover the 30 km from the edge of the city to my hotel in the middle of the center.
In a week I have to get my bike ready to fly and I decide to stay in the city for this last week. Kuala Lumpur is a metropolis where you really meet all nationalities. Wonderful diversity. If you like shopping, you will enjoy yourself here in the many shopping malls. Even if you like roller coasters, nothing is too crazy. One shopping center is even bigger and more luxurious than the other.
The most impressive thing for me are the beautiful skyscrapers with the iconic Petronas Twin Towers as icing on the cake. In the park at the foot of the Twin Towers there is a fountain show every evening that attracts many people. Also a young couple from Yemen with whom I share my bench. We talk about Yemen, Europe, Malaysia and travel and before I know it it's already late.
On the way back to the hotel I try to grab a beer in a super luxurious rooftop bar with a view of the Twin Towers, but unfortunately I can't get in with my shorts. But the Leffe Blond in the mall also tastes great.
It really strikes me how busy the city is. When I walk back to my hotel around midnight, there are still hundreds of people waiting to cross at the major intersections and the other traffic is still stuck as if it were rush hour. This city really never sleeps.
