I am in Besut, a small town on the east coast of Malaysia from where the boats to the Perhentian Islands depart. Indeed, I'm going to an island again for a few days! These Malaysian islands are known for their beautiful dive sites, so I can't pass them by.
My homestay is only 300 meters away from the pier where the boats leave, but that is also the only plus. It seems that they have made the rooms in a kind of garage, because there are no windows and it is very noisy. Anyway, it's clean, cool and I can leave my motorcycle and luggage here for 4 days while I'm on the island.
Things are different here than on the previous island, Koh Phangan. A large ferry departs there a few times a day, here each island resort has its own office in the harbor on the mainland, where guests gather and are then taken to the island with their own speedboats.
I booked a dive package online with 4 boat dives and 3 nights accommodation. My last mini-vacation before going home. After half an hour of sailing we get off at the pier of the resort and it looks beautiful: white beaches, palm trees and crystal clear water.
In front of the resort is a beautiful coral reef where boats are not allowed to come and it is wonderful snorkelling. Many different types of fish and beautiful coral. The first dive the next morning is even better. Unfortunately, the sun is missing, but when I roll back off the boat, I am immediately surprised how clear the water is here. More than 20 meters of visibility and a beautiful coral reef below me. These will be another few unforgettable days!
